Political Contributions

I have just made my first ever contribution to a candidate running for political office. Unfortunately, I can't vote for the guy too. Sean Tevis is running for State Representative in Kansas and his wonderful cartoon inspired me to click a few buttons on my computer. Paypal is really super cool. I have been pondering whether I should send Mr. Obama a few of my hard-earned bucks, but if he and his campaign team keep saying crap like this I think I will keep my money for important things like Pac-Man Shoes.

UPDATE: I don't know how I forgot about it, but I have made one other political contribution in my life. Back in 2003 there was a bullshit recall election for the governor of California. So, I contributed to the campaign of the movie star candidate that should have won (link NSFW).

Deep Discount Hates Me

Thanks to the wonders of the Roku box, I have decided to start shrinking my dvd collection. I'm definitely not buying any more dvds. Definitely not. Well, at least I am going to avoid buying normal stuff. Maybe I will pick up some rare stuff or special editions. So, imagine my horror when I get an email from Deep Discount today telling me that all their Criterion dvds are buy-one-get-one-free. It is a good thing I just got my car fixed and I need a new computer and Comic-Con is next week. I could easily see myself spending $500 on Criterion discs without breaking a sweat. Must not place huge dvd order.

Le Cercle Rouge

Expectations can be a terrible thing. Lately, I have been following along on Filmspotting.net's dvd marathons. The current marathon involves heist films. So, last night I popped Le Cercle Rouge into my dvd player and was thoroughly expecting to be wowed. I had heard many a time how awesome a film it is. The epitome of cool. Whatever. I was less than charmed. Don't sit there thinking that I just don't like old movies or foreign films. Examples of both can be found in my top ten films of all time. I just couldn't get into the story of Le Cercle Rouge. I didn't care about the characters at all. The heist wasn't that impressive either. The thing with the key was particularly lame. Disappointing. If you want to see a really wonderful French heist film, check out Rififi.

I just found out there is a remake of Le Cercle Rouge on the way with Orlando Bloom. I am not sure how to feel about that. Bloom is a supporter of the best football club in the world, but his film career has been a bit patchy.

Dr. Horrible is here!

I've been mulling over this whole blogging thing, so I figured it was time to  give it a try. I am too tired to write anything really useful tonight, so I will just say that you should be checking out the Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog this week. Moments of hilarity surrounded by general goodness. I heard some rumblings that the freeness will not last long, so hurry up.

UPDATE: The freeness will definitely end on July 20th, so check it out for free while you can. Banner on the right til the freeness is gone.

UPDATE: The freeness has ended, so head on over to the Itunes store or wait for the dvd.
